CANTON Girls got hoop game too. Tom Miller knew that.
What the Marlington High School girls basketball coach has done in support of female basketball players everywhere is design, market, patent and sell his own line of clothing apparel and accessories under the "ballher" trademark.
"It has taken on a life of its own," Miller, 25, said of the ballher ("the h is silent — baller,") line. "Two years ago, they were just shirts. Now, we're the No. 1 selling shirt in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame."
Yes, the one in Knoxville, TN. The Hall of Fame where 8-time national champion Vols coach Pat Summit signed a ballher "We break ankles and hearts" T-shirt for Miller.
The T-shirt was proudly on display at First Friends Church Sunday at Miller's clinic for girls that featured former Vols great Tamika Catchings. So were shorts, water bottles, blue-colored basketballs, nylon gear bags, and more.
"I think it will be something the girls will say, 'this is for me,' " Catchings said of ballher. "They'll be excited about it. There is a lot of stuff for boys: Jordan stuff, LeBron stuff, Nike. This is just for girls."
From the thin, curvaceous lines of the female representing the logo to the name, it's all about the girls serious about the game, Miller said.
