State\'s logo used in Nigerian email scam

The attention of the West Australian Government was drawn to a Nigerian e-mail scam after it was discovered that the government logo was being used in a series of fake e-mails and on fake documents.

It was brought to their attention that the logo was being used when fake documents, sporting the fake West Australian Government logo, were sent to a Perth woman in a fleecing attempt.

The use of the Government logo has stunned authorities, particularly in the use of faked e-mails from the Consumer Protection Agency. Authorities are saying this is the first time they have been impersonated this way.

In an interview with The Australian, Consumer Protection Commissioner Anne Driscoll had this to say: \"This is a particularly alarming scenario where the scammers have actually impersonated the WA regulator,\"

The woman who fell for the scam, a single mother, lost close to $9,000.
